How it works
From first call to final order, in five steps
Every family case here moves through the same five steps. What changes is how long each one takes.
- 0110 minutes
Step 1: The first call
You tell the office what’s happening in a sentence or two. We check that no one on the other side is already a client, then book a first meeting.
- 02One hour, set fee
Step 2: The first meeting
At the office or by video. You leave with the next three steps in writing and a price for the work.
- 03Two to four weeks
Step 3: The paperwork
You send statements, schedules and any orders you already have. I turn them into a petition, a draft agreement or a parenting plan.
- 04Weeks to months
Step 4: Working it out
Drafts go back and forth with the other side, often with a mediator. Most cases settle here.
- 05One hearing
Step 5: The final order
The judge signs the decree, plan or adoption order. You get a copy and a one-page summary of what it means for you.
What people ask about the process
Do I have to go to court?
For most agreed cases, only once, for a short final hearing. Contested cases may need more, and I’ll tell you each date well ahead.
How do I send documents?
Through a secure upload link the office sends after your first meeting. Please don’t email statements or put them in the contact form.
Who will I talk to?
Me. It’s a one-lawyer office, with a part-time assistant who keeps the calendar and the files.
Step one takes ten minutes
Call the office, or send a short message, and we’ll book your first meeting.
