Questions
Answers before the first meeting
The questions parents and spouses ask most, answered plainly. Your own case may differ; that’s what the first meeting is for.
Fees
What does a first meeting cost?
A set fee, quoted when you book, for an hour at the office or by video. If you hire me, it comes off the bill.
Why do you quote fees up front?
Because not knowing the cost is one more worry you don’t need. Flat fees cover the work listed; hourly work runs against a retainer with a plain monthly statement.
What isn’t included in a flat fee?
Court filing fees, mediator fees, appraisals, background checks and anything the court orders paid to someone else. Those are billed at cost.
Working together
Will I work with you or an assistant?
With me. The assistant books meetings and keeps the files, and never gives legal advice.
How fast do you answer messages?
Within one business day. If a hearing is close, sooner.
Can we meet by video?
Yes. Any meeting can be by video, and Thursday evenings are kept for parents who can’t leave work.
Your case
Can you help if my spouse already filed?
Yes. Bring the papers you were served to the first meeting; there’s a deadline to answer, so call soon.
Do you take cases outside Hamilton County?
Often, in nearby counties in Tennessee and Georgia. Ask when you call.
Ask the one that isn’t here
Call the office or send a short message. Don’t include confidential details until we’ve spoken.
